Applying the Butterfly Framework to appraise stakeholder assessments of biochar and black soldier fly as circular innovations in Kenya

Research output: Book/ReportReportProfessional

Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore if the Butterfly Framework, developed by Wageningen University and Research (WUR), can be effectively used to guide stakeholder assessments of emerging circular innovations, specifically biochar and black soldier fly (BSF) products in Kenya’s agri-food system. The findings show that the framework successfully supports holistic thinking, encourages a shared language among stakeholders, and helps identify key impact themes. While promising, its broader application depends on the local context and development of circular economy sectors.
