    Abstract

During seven weeks, each week 2000 - 2500 kg pre-dried layer hen manure (60 - 70% DM) was added to a container which was covered with a roof. The exhaust air of the container passed a chemical air scrubber. The ammonia emission out of the container and out of the air scrubber were measured by continuously monitoring the ventilation rate and the ammonia concentration in the exhaust air. During two weeks, each day the odour emission was measured before and after the chemical air scrubber. Also temperatures of the weekly added poultry manure were measured. After passing the chemical air scrubber, the ammonia emission was reduced by more than 99% and the odour emission on average by 60%. Temperatures in the manure rose to 50 - 70 °C. After storage the manure was crumbly and had an average DM of 68%.
