Abstract
Fourteen interviews with advisers, commissioned by Sustainable Dairy Chain, show that advisers are fairly positive about making dairy farming more sustainable. This leads to fewer inputs at the farm level; fewer emissions of nitrate and ammonia; and less energy consumption. Their perspectives on the future of dairy farming and the positive and negative consequences of sustainability are fairly similar. Most important to all advisers is the business model for dairy farmers. They were also clear about their own contribution and that of other parties: they are motivated to work with dairy farmers on sustainability, but this is not the case for all advisers. This is sometimes complicated by the level of knowledge of advisers and dairy farmers and external factors, such as unclear (government) policy.
