Invasive crayfish are increasingly advancing in the Netherlands and have a negative impact on the Dutch water quality standards and native aquatic flora and fauna. In the context of European regulations, these exotic species must be controlled where possible. This can be done, among other things, by catching and marketing crayfish as a consumer product and a number of professional fishermen have already specialized in commercial crayfish fishing. In this scoping study, the current business model of three professional fishermen was examined and the conditions under which a sustainable, economically viable business model for professional fishermen can exist were examined.
