A system to assess and monitor the sustainability performance of existing sustainability certification schemes for biobased systems

This poster presents the development of the BIOBASEDCERT Monitoring System (BMS), one of the primary joint efforts of the BIOBASEDCERT cluster, formed by sister projects SUSTCERT4BIOBASED, STAR4BBS and HARMONITOR. The BMS aims to objectively assess the comprehensiveness, robustness, and effectiveness of sustainability certification schemes and labels (CSLs) for biobased value chains. By identifying strengths and weaknesses of CSLs, the BMS seeks to contribute to their improvement, thereby driving the transition to a more sustainable bioeconomy. The poster focuses on the content level of the BMS, which contains requirements vis-à-vis sustainability topics (i.e., environmental, circular, social and economic). It describes the initial structure of the BMS, the method adopted for its development, as well as some preliminary results and future steps.
