Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

Plastic pollution of teh worlds oceans is an increasing problem. However only few data are available about the extent of this problem in the Antarctic. In the past two years ans also this year samples of faeces of Antarctic fur seal have been collected on the Chilean island Cape Shirreff. The plastic content of the faecal pellets will be analysed. The amout of plastics excreted by fur seals can be an indicator of the plastic pollution in the South Pole region. These data can also be ued to determine whether these animals and other top predators in the Antarctic region suffer from plastic pollution.
