A global sustainable food system is needed to eliminate hunger and malnutrition in the world. Water plays a crucial role in social, ecologically and economically sustainable food systems. Also LNV wants to invest more in a sustainable food system and specifically in circular agriculture to increase the food security.
This project will deliver input for LNV (and other Dutch ministries) to create a long term vision on water and food and having this vision included in the Dutch (foreign) policy agenda. It provides evidence based insights on how to advance circular agricultural and food production to increase food security in the world. These insights are, amongst others, derived from experiences at several case studies in different areas. Results will not only be connected to individual countries, but also to international funds and policy arenas in order to foster upscaling solutions in the field of water for food.
The approach of this BO project is to synthesize the work done in the additional BO and other water for food related projects. Descriptions, examples, lessons learned and possible future actions will be explained in three policy briefs for LNV. The topics of the policy briefs will be:
- Context and framework water security for food production
- Descriptions and examples water for food
- Advance actions water for food
