Project Details
Description
The oystercatcher is one of the characteristic species for which the Netherlands has a big responsibility. Given
that a large population decline has occurred, the Dutch government wants the Centre for Avian Population Studies (SOVON) to carry out a thorough investigation into the causes. This BO-project will contribute to the objective by linking with the larger SOVON-project.
The oystercatcher is in a poor state of conservation; there is a negative trend. What are the causes? To develop a suitable method by which the cumulative impacts on the oystercatcher of all human activities can be identified and quantified?
One of the priorities of the Dutch presidency of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation in the period 2014-2018 has been addressing the negative trend in the number of breeding birds in the Wadden Sea. It is expected that on the basis of the results of this project, appropriate measures can be developed.
