Voorbereiding internationale samenwerking genetisch onderzoek wolf (t2) (BO-11-011.01-072)

Project: LNV project

Project Details

Over the past years, the number of wolves sighted in north-western Europe has increased, and wolves are seen closer to the Dutch border. The reappearance of this species in the Netherlands is a likely scenario. Ensuring abilities for rapid identification of individual animals and inference of their most likely origin, by means of genetic research, is part of the current preparations for the arrival of wolves.  Rapid and detailed conclusions are, however, hampered by the scattered availability of reference material of the various potential source populations at various European research institutes. In this project, Alterra, together with other European institutes, aims to initiate more international collaboration among wolf geneticists in Europe with respect to research on the immigration of wolves towards north-western Europe.
