Verspreiding Cmm in tomaat (BO-26.02-002-006, BO-12.03-017-021)

Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm), a quarantine disease and causative agent of bacterial canker, can cause large damage in tomato crops. The government has a responsibiity in regulation of the pathogen. For disease management, knowledge on the risks of seed infections is required as well as reliable sensitive methods for detection of the pathogen. Current protocols are not always able to detect low pathogen densities in seed samples. In this project research is conducted on the improvement of the sensitivity of methods by enrichment of Cmm in tomato seeds. In paralel methods will be developed to produce internally infected tomato seeds that can be used for validation of methods, studies on transmission from seed to seedling and on seed treatments.
