Project Details

Description

The main objective of this project is to: to quantify the resiliency of production animals on the basis of one or more variables which can be measured easily and continuously on the animal,. Resilience is here a measure that indicates how well an individual animal (at a particular moment) is capable of dealing with any distortions and maintaining homeostasis. The size of resilience is determined by the moment, the duration and severity of the appearance of disease symptoms to be measured at the variation of husbandry conditions and after experimental infection (temperature, secretion, clinical symptoms, etc.) in combination with the rate of recovery. The largest resilience have animals that are able to remain healthy after infection (no clinically measurable symptoms). In this study, we chose the pig as an model animal to test the hypotheses.
