Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

The objective of this project is to quantify the economic, environmental and societal performance of a livestock production sector, based on a sample of farms that represent the sector, i.e., a bottom-up Life Cycle (LCA) approach. This will be illustrated with a representative sample of pig and dairy farms in the Dutch national Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). Using a bottom-up approach, insight in differences between farms and possible trade-offs are provided. Furthermore, a better understanding of witch farms (and why) are producing more sustainable than others. Questions that to be answered, for example, are: what is the integrated sustainability performance of pig and dairy farms; which farms are the best performing farms; how to aggregate results at farm level to a sector score for integrated sustainability; how to compose a "fair" benchmark to compare sustainability performance between farms that are using a different management approach.
