Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) strives to achieve profitable and sustainable fishing that, in nature and size, is appropriate to the new situation in the North Sea. Major challenges for the Dutch fishing sector include the limitation of space for fishing due to the development of wind energy in the North Sea and the designation of nature reserves (e.g. Natura2000 and the Marine Framework Directive (KRM)), the ban on pulse fishing, the Brexit and the landing obligation. With these developments, the Dutch fishing sector is under pressure and there is a need from the government and the sector for a future perspective for the Dutch fishing industry. In order to achieve a good future perspective for fisheries, several initiatives are currently underway and there are several issues with regard to the fisheries sector that influence and are important for policy-making by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. The current project supports the Ministry of LNV in the form of scientific support and policy advice on several topics related to the future prospects of the Dutch fisheries sector.
