Project Details
Description
This project will study the definition of well-being for pre-colonial rice-farming societies in Java, what has been done by the indigenous institutions to achieve it, and how was the level of their well-being during its last prosperous period (1750-1800). On the top of that, this research will also ask those same questions to the societies under study during the solidification of the colonial state (1800-1900) that introduced capitalism and modernization to Java.
