Super-charged immune cells (SPICE)

    Project: NWO project

    Project Details

    Description

This research explores the importance of oxygen in our bodies. Cells, especially immune cells, need oxygen to function, but too little or too much can be harmful. The study focuses on using special compounds called perfluorocarbons (PFCs) to carry oxygen. We have previously have created tiny particles with PFCs inside them to “colour” cells for imaging in the body. In this project, we will test if the same particles can support cells low-oxygen environments, like tumours or areas with infections. Our ultimate goal is to create supercharged immune cells (SPICE) that can improve treatments for various health conditions.
