Strengthening women’s access to land for plantation crops under direct foreign investment in Sierra Leone

    Project: NWO project

    Project Details

    Description

Women in Africa are said to have weak land rights. My work on cacao in eastern Sierra Leone suggested this weakness has been exaggerated. What can be done about the situation?. Male assumptions about women''s weak land rights extend to traders, who think that treecrop outputs are only owned jointly with men. I planned to work with a group of women farmers to see if they could enter the supply chain for organic cacao on their own account.
