Soil and water-based spatial planning and design (NWO-KIC program RESHAPE)

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

Spatial planning and Design Work (WP3) of the RESHAPE project develops a spatial planning approach and design guidelines that integrated the soil and water leading approach into planning practices. The aim is to characterise the spatial complexity of the land use principles based on soil and water leading approach. Through the research, a spatial planning support system (PSS) is developed that builds on quantitative and qualitative understanding of the watersheds of the sandy landscapes. The PSS, a) allows users to explore the relative strengths of the planning and design guidelines and evaluate its effect on the resulting landscape configuration and b) integrates the spatial dependencies within the water and soil systems of the sandy landscapes across multiple scales with the planning approach. This will lead to a flexible, yet science-based approach that allows for addressing the main challenges of Climate change and environmental degradation in an integrated manner.
