Project Details

Description

The aim of this SEED project is to design resilient and affordable business models with RAS which are affordable and accessible to small scale fish farmers, with the aim to scale this business further. Not only will 1.000+ fish farmers and 10.000+ consumers involved benefit, but Kenyan and Dutch businesses will co-create solutions for green energy and make profits on highly future oriented initiatives. The composition and excellence of the consortium consists of a total of two Dutch businesses with expertise and experience in RAS in Kenya, and one Kenyan technology firm with expertise in aquaculture and high tech developments designed for affordable standards, as well as the Nyeri fish farmer cooperative and FOSPA (Kenya) who are working on a daily basis with the fish farmers. Besides Wageningen Economic Research leading this SEED project, having a track record in research and implementation of viable and resilient aquaculture businesses in the informal sector in Kenya, two Kenyan research institutes are involved with high level expertise in fish farming in Kenya.
