The feasibility study in this project should provide information for Dutch potato seed companies on: potential market access, looking at the market, technical and legal feasibility in Myanmar.
After the feasibility study it is envisaged that companies can start commercial activities in Myanmar, and as such farmers will have access to healthy seed of superior varieties. In turn farmers will be able to double their yields and as a result the project will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): zero hunger (goal 2), through availing improved technologies, and contributing to food security, improved nutrition and increase local income.
With respect to LNVs knowledge agenda, the project aims to contribute to one of its key objectives: Sustainable plant production systems: resistant and stress tolerant planting material. The TPS varieties of the participating companies have a high degree of phytophthora and bacterial wilt resistance, with high yields, which will reduce the use of agrochemicals by local farmers in Myanmar. The project will further contribute to the valorization and market creation objectives of the knowledge agenda (chapter 3.2) by testing innovative products in new countries.
