Project Details
Description
Since December 2011, an new virus has been detected in the Netherlands: Schmallenbergvirus. In the mean time, several hundreds of notifications of malfomed lambs were done by farmers. For the development of laboratory diagnostic tests to be able to detect this new virus in infected livestock, we need well-defined tissue samples from infected animals coming from infection trials. An experiment will focus on different times of infection since start of gestation; another experiment will focus on possibilities of transplacental infection; in another experiment, lambs will be infected and samples will be taken severla different days post infection.
