Project: LVVN project
In the years 2004-2007 the model HAIR2010 was developed by a consortium of European research institutes funded by the European Commission. The intended use of HAIR is to calculate pesticide risk indicators for environmental and human protection goals; i.e. for aquatic and terrestrial species, for groundwater resources, for worker groups who prepare and apply pesticide products to the crops, and for bystanders.
Until now, the sustainable crop protection policy of the Dutch government was evaluated using the outcomes of the Dutch Environmental Risk Indicator for Plant Protection Products. The possible use of HAIR for future evaluations of the sustainable crop protection policy of the Dutch government is explored. This exploration focusses on the aquatic indicators in HAIR;
1) The possibility for the user to select the most relevant exposure pathways, i.e. pipe drainage and discharge from greenhouses
2) Suitability of crop maps and soil maps and crop classifications in HAIR
3) The exposure to metabolites of plant protection products
The scientific knowledge behind the risk indicators in HAIR was delivered by the original HAIR consortium. These algorithms and the main programme features will remain available to the public in the form approved by the commission in the year 2011.
