Rewilding attitudes across Europe

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

The Horizon Europe project "wildE" aims to explore the potential of climate-smart rewilding within Europe. As part of this project, I am researching attitudes towards rewilding across Europe. The mainstay of my research consists of a large-scale pan-European survey of the general public's attitudes towards rewilding across 30 European countries, by means of an online questionnaire. In this survey, I explore potential differences in attitudes amongst different nations and sociodemographics. I am also assessing the influence of how a person values nature, their level of environmental concern, and their beliefs about the outcomes of rewilding may have on their attitude towards rewilding. My intention is to follow-up this large-scale pan-European survey with more in-depth and context-specific case studies, to better understand how attitudes may vary amongst different stakeholder groups and for those more directly affected by rewilding efforts.
