Through presentations, interviews and publications a wide public is informed about the opportunities nanotechnology has to offer. The aim is not to address the subject at a deep scientific level but to approach the audience with examples that come close to his or her everyday life. However, it is important to recognize that the general public is reluctant to accept state-of-the-art technologies when it comes to food. Nanotechnology is a toolbox that enables to create new functionality at the nanolevel which, because most of our food is nanostructured, can be very useful to the sector. By using the right examples and also addressing applications like sensors and detection systems, it becomes clear the nanotechnology is much more than very small particles that can reach parts of the body where you don’t want them. In this way support for the technology in this application field is created and slowly also a recognition of the benefits can be seen.
