The aging of hydraulic structures puts the replacement of these structures on the policy agenda. These structures are important knots in management of water systems for a myriad of societal needs. The long lifetime of these structures (80-100 years) and the need to anticipate on long term developments as climate change in the decision making process makes the replacement of hydraulic structures a multifold planning and design task. Different spatial and time scales need to be considered. The research will focus on the systematic development of solution perspectives on the scale of the object, the network and the region based on literature review and comparison of replacement in different infrastructural networks.
