Project Details
Description
Nitrogen deposition is not the only factor that affects eutrophication in ecosystems. The aim of this project is to investigate to what extent nitrogen contributes to changes in plant species composition that are now mostly allocated to nitrogen deposition. How well defined are the assumptions underlying these statements and which alternative explanations can prove the opposite? The tenable of arguments and alternative explanations are discussed on the basis of analysis of 1) the historical grass encroachment in selected heathlands and 2) the timing and rate of disappearance of target species from dry heathland and species-rich vegetation.
