The framework of this project is based on the creation of an anti-doping   unit in Qatar for camel and horse-racing. The accreditation of the unit will   be comparable to what is the standard for WADA (World Anti-doping Agency) for humans. The GC-MS (gas-chromatography mass-spectrometry)   en LC-MS (liquid-chromatography mass-spectrometry) methods developed in this project will be set-up to screen 200 to 300   illegal compounds.

RIKILT is asked to participate in this project because   of its outstanding track record in automation of data-analysis in this   research area. Qatar is interested in the possibility of screening - in   retrospect - years of GC-MS and LC-MS data for signals of new illegal   compounds. For this reason terrabytes of acquisition data have to be pre-processed   to a smaller size and stored in a database. Software for pre-processing and   searching the database are developed by RIKILT.

For some compounds no standard is available. Without   a standard the retention needed for confirmation and screening is not   there. Part of the RIKILT research in this project is to develop and automate   retention prediction based on models. Retention modelling is done on hundreds   of compounds with known structures and retentions.
