Plasma proteins to enhance gut health in dogs

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

Many dogs experience gastrointestinal problems. Current treatment options include changing the diet, antibiotics and strong immunosuppressants. These treatments are, unfortunately, not without side effects. In parallel to bovine IgG opsonizing human RSV viruses, this research focuses on the use of spray-dried porcine plasma, which has proven immunomodulatory potential in the treatment of canine gut problems. The researchers will investigate interactions between porcine-plasma proteins and canine pathogens and -immune cells. Subsequently, they will incorporate porcine plasma in canine diets, and study the in vivo effect on dogs with chronic diarrhoea.
