Project Details
Description
Dutch industries have great business opportunities in the Arctic. At the same time new activities in the Arctic experience a low social acceptance due to its potential effects on humans and the environment. Several environmental organizations have already expressed their concerns with the development of oil and gas activities in the Arctic. Partly as a result of these developments, the topic has entered the political agenda. Within this umbrella project efforts are made to connect IMARES and Partners for International Business to work on the theme of environmentally sound and economically viable operations in the Arctic. The aim is to unravel Arctic knowledge needs and demand, to find new (international) partners for new Arctic projects and to develop a joint Arctic knowledge Agenda. We do this in 4 ways:
- Dutch Arctic Circle: cooperation between research institutes, governments and businesses to align with the objective to better connect the supply and demand of Arctic knowledge to realise responsible operations.
- Project Delta Group: cooperation with the Dutch business community with the aim to promote The Netherlands as a sustainable partner in the Russian Arctic
- Skoltech: a cooeration with MIT and Russian companies with the aim develop innovations to make Russian Arctic oil and gas more sustainable
- Arctic seminar: cooperation with HME, Canatec and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to share knowledge on the technical and environmental challenges of Arctic shipping and operations in a seminar
