Optimizing quality of (straw)berries by non-thermal food processing and packaging, as enabled by data science and physics-based modelling.

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

- Map the current state of the strawberry supply chain and the available metadata on several cold chain operations and characteristics. Devise and deploy a ML algorithm to predict quality upon arrival based on metadata. - Exploring different food technologies to preserve quality of berries longer and test them by mathematical modeling and experimental verification. We target ozone treatment, cold plasma, heat, or cold shock treatment. - Exploring the potential of ventilated packaging designs to preserve berries and the incorporation of self-actuation materials in the packaging to monitor and respond to environmental conditions.
