Optimizing dairy cow lactation length

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

Dairy cow health is at risk around calving. By extending the lactation period a dairy cow will experience a lower frequency of calving events and herewith a lower frequency of associated health risks. In this project I will predict the optimal lactation length for individual cows using time-series forecasting machine learning models using cow specific features. The data for this study is collected from 40 Dutch dairy farms. These models will be used to personalize dairy cow management and here with improve cow health and dairy production efficiency.
