Description
Non-inversion tillage (NIT) and controlled traffic farming (CTF) in practise.
Farmers worry about deterioration of the soil quality due to, a.o. heavy mechanisation and a decreasing supply of organic matter. Suboptimal soil quality limits agricultural production and the functioning of the soil in a sustainable manner. This project stimulates Non Inversion Tillage (NIT) and Controlled Traffic Farming (CTF), being management options tot improve soil quality. Several farmers have started to adopt NIT and CTF in the Netherlands because of expected favourable effects on soil quality and farm income. However, knowlegde is missing on how these strategies can be integrated in local crop husbandry practises. The aim of the project is to utilize the innovative power of the farmers by monitoring the adoption, assist with on-farm research and spread the experiences. Products are reports of the activities and presentation of the findings to farmers groups.
