Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

After the introduction of a contagious animal disease on a farm, there is a high-risk period that lasts until the disease is detected, during which the disease can be further spread to other farms through various forms of contact. The high-risk period has been estimated at 6 weeks for classical swine fever (CSF) and African swine fever (ASF). The aim of this project is to map and analyze the risk of spreading pig diseases through pig transports during the high-risk period using social network analysis (SNA). SNA shows which companies, clusters or regions are strongly connected, plus the important connections between clusters. The knowledge acquired can be applied during the control of ASF and KVP by prioritizing the efforts of the NVWA and substantiating this prioritization. It is also important that the SNA can be done before an outbreak occurs, which reduces the response time.
