Project Details

Description

In recent years many organisations (OECD, UNEP, EEA) have continued to work on measures that give a more inclusive view on societal progress within the planet's ecological carrying capacity than the narrow set of macro-economic indicators that are traditionally used for that purpose: GDP, inflation and uneployment.

However, the work continues to be hampered by fragmentation and discipline-specific specialisation. Researchers and policy makers have moved from general problem description and objective setting to addressing specific flaws and gaps in indicators used to measure the progress of society.

NETGREEN addresses these challenges by (i) identifying commonalities and gaps among the different measurement approaches, (ii) visualising their structure, (iii) assessing the utility of different indicators and support tools in the context of measuring the green economy and (iii) developing new communication channels among the various groups working in the field.

NETGREEN will enhance the indicator and support tool collection with meta-information on their underlying theoretical basis, measurement framework, empirical evidence and best practices.
