Natuurcombinaties in bossen (BO-11-011.01-053)

Project: LNV project

Project Details

Description

In the Netherlands a substantial forest area is denoted as multifunctional with wood production, nature conservation as well as recreation as important functions. In recent years discussions started on how optimal these functions are performed and whether a separation of functions at the landscape level could be more beneficial for both wood production and biodiversity targets. This line of thought has gained momentum by economic recession and the ambition of forest owners to intensify harvest regimes. This poses further questions on the sustainability of forest use. The project aims at the development of sustainable combinations of forest functions given actual bottlenecks due to intensified harvesting encountered by large forest owners.
