Project Details

Description

In West Java, Indonesia, a large number of dairy farmers is discharging manure into the environment. Land for fodder production is often heavily over-fertilized. Using cattle manure as a fertilizer in other sectors can reduce environmental pollution and local nuisance. Tea plantation could be an opportunity for large-scale application of cattle manure, covering about 150 thousand ha of land in Indonesia, mainly in West Java. Therefore, the aim of this project is to gain more insight in barriers and opportunities to use cattle manure as a fertilizer in a large-scale tea plantations in West Java. Activities include: i) interviews and workshop to identify barriers and opportunities, and innovative solutions, ii) demo at PTPNVIII tea plantation in Bandung, iii) communication and dissemination activities. The project will be closely aligned with the CCAFS project ‘Closing Regional Nutrient Cycles for Low-emission Agriculture’.
