Open data can potentially accelerate developments in big data, by making a big data collection based on open data. Project Agro-DATA CUBE will develop such a big data collection based on public data from the Dutch government. Agro-DATA CUBE integrates various data sets relevant to agricultural production (soil, weather, NDVI, altitude, etc) based on agricultural parcels as a common reference point. This Agro-DATA CUBE product whas been introduced to relevant industry parties and offered as experimental environment in supervised sessions. Finally, lessons learned will be synthesized on the basis of these sessions for further developments: strengths, weaknesses, missing data, future maintenance. These lessons learned are used again in sessions for the application of similar concepts in other contexts: one session focused on other policy areas and another session on international food security.
