Description
This project supports the transition towards a more sustainable and circular use of plastics in agriculture and horticulture. This objective is met by the development of five new circular plastic products, testing of their functionality during use and end-of-life, and quantification of their impact on sustainability and circularity. New biobased and biodegradable materials will be used to develop and test prototypes for cultivation pots, tree protectors, plant plugs and turf netting. In parallel the project will also target to find solutions for issues that
currently limit the effective implementation of biobased and biodegradable plastics such as the effect of contaminants on recycling and quantification of biodegradation for products used in the open environment.
The collective knowledge gathered and results obtained in the project will be used to expand the WUR decision support tool for plastics in agriculture and horticulture.
