Project Details

In the work of the WOT Nature & Environment, various base maps/files are used to monitor the location and extent of landscape and nature in the Netherlands. This concerns, for example, the ‘basis kaart natuur’ (BKN), the Land Use Database of the Netherlands (LGN) and the ‘Beheertypenkaart’. Each map has its own target group and use and its own history. Due to the differences in use and the need to monitor differences over time, it is not possible to work towards a single file. However, it is possible to ensure that the basis from which the above maps (and any other future maps) are generated are kept the same, so that the risk of inconsistencies is minimal. Work is on-going to realise a consistent basis and will continue in 2022. LGN as one of the basic datasets is still not freely available. The aim is to make this dataset available as open data as soon as possible. A start has been made in 2021, in this year 2022 it should become clear whether the step to open data is feasible.
