Description
To reduce and avoid leaching of phosphorus to surface water, P application rate limits have been introduced in The Netherlands. The application rate limits are set equal to the average P uptake rate by the crop (balanced P fertilisation. However, this raises questions about long-term effects of balanced P fertilisation on crop yields, soil P satus and P leaching from soil. These effects are being investigated through long-term field trials on grassland and arable land. Treatments include different levels of P fertilisation as well as P mining.
