Description
In 2012 a project on European cooperation on EU directives on water quality (Nitrate Directive, Water Framework Directive) was launched, called: Science-Policy Working Group on Reducing nutrient emissions from Agriculture in NW European catchments. Both policy makers and researchers are participation (chair Netherlands). There is a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between the countries (Belgium, Germany, Denmark, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and the Netherlands). The main topics to be discussed concerns: quantifying the contribution of nutrient emission in rural areas, control measures and monitoring the effects of the legislation/measures. The main aim of the project is exchange information about current situation and legislation (including what needs to be improved) and discuss new policy options for legislation with the the other Member States, and collect other information and experiences.
Each year specific issues are further explored and presented in the autumn during the annual meeting of the policy-science working group. The elaboration of the notes, presentations, actions dealing with the organisation of the, and reporting are the most important aspects of this project.
