Project: LVVN project
The aim of strategic research on animal and aquatic genetic resources is to develop or improve methods to improve cost efficiency and effectivity of genebank collection management, and to optimize genetic management of animal populations and breeding programs.
Genomic research will contribute to the development of methods for the monitoring of genetic diversity and to improve genetic management of populations. In addition to genetic characterization of gene bank collections and animal populations, we will also put emphasis on better phenotypic characterization of livestock breeds in their production system context.
The aim of cryopreservation and animal reproduction research is to develop adequate protocols for cryoconservation of various types of reproductive genetic material (semen, embryos, oocytes, ovarian tissue, primordial germ cells) of different livestock and aquatic species and breeds.
