As an innovative genebank, CGN is continuously searching for methods to improve the effectiveness and efficiency in the conservation and utilization of genetic diversity. The project ‘Fundamental Research Plant Genetic Resources’ focuses on the question how the management and use of plant genetic resources can be supported and innovated by means of scientific research, applying novel technological developments such as in the field of genomics and bioinformatics. The research project is focussed on increased knowledge about the diversity occurring in crop collections and the optimization of the composition thereof, improved methods to maintain and use collections more effectively and efficiently and improved accessibility of collections and information thereof to the user community.
