Description

This Soil C tool can be used by arable farmers, land-bound livestock farmers, but also by their advisors or accountants. The tool provides insight in the carbon balance in the soil and the change in carbon stocks over time. This results in the calculation of the carbon balance and CO2 sequestration. The tool can only calculate for mineral soils (e.g., clay or sand). Carbon can be added to the soil through: crop residues, green manure, organic fertilisers, and compost. Farm-specific information on the application of carbon inputs are required to run the tool. Besides, the tool needs information on the clay -and carbon content of the fields. The tool can create a default scenario for the future. This scenario can be compared to alternative scenarios in which the carbon management is improved. This provides the opportunity to assess which carbon measure(s) are most efficient for a specific situation. You can assess the effect of multiple measures, but you can also assess the effect of one measure in different gradations. Because of this, most efficient measures can be selected and made concrete on field and farm level.
