The fish stocks in the IJssellake are under pressure, especially for roach and bream. For the year 2017 a catch reduction of 36% is necessary. This has been translated into a measure with 36% less gill nets. As a result, the catches of pike-perch and perch are also greatly reduced, and related a far more lower gfishermen's income. The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality is aware of this problems and is looking for alternative measures with the same effect on the reduction of whitefish and bream catches, but with less economic consequences.
