Interactieve tools voor kennisontwikkeling op referentie-informatiemodellen in een living lab setting (KB-17-001.03-003)

The current situation concerning ICT in the agri-food industry is characterized by large amounts of available data, but there is a low level of integration and the support for intelligent use of such information is insufficient.  There is a mismatch between the current application of digital knowledge solutions and the increasing demand for intelligent solutions that combine flexibility, interoperability, that sector-specific and suitable for SMEs. This project focuses on how the Future Internet can contribute to the development of innovative and potentially useful digital knowledge solutions to bridge this mismatch.

The main planned results of the research are:

• State of the Art position papers and user requirements on Future Internet based knowledge solutions;
• Architectural framework for a coherent application of Future Internet technologies in the agri-food sector;
• Innovative applications of the framework in in Living Labs (Proof of Concepts).

The applications focus on digital solutions for:

1. Smart Farming: individual treatment of animals, plants or m2 of land at the right place and right time through sophisticated sensing and monitoring, decision support and precise application to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, flexibility and chain responsiveness.
2. Smart Agri-Food Logistics: intelligent matching of supply and demand followed by smart transport and logistics of agri-food products by for example tracking of food products, conditioned transport using sensors and control systems, remotely controlled early warning systems, and better predictions of food transportation needs.
3. 3.     Smart Food Awareness: enabling the consumer with relevant information e.g. concerning safety, availability, health, environmental impact, and animal welfare to make informed decision and making the activities carried out in the entire food production chain transparent.
