Integrated Monitoring of Plastic in Rivers, Estuaries and Seas (IMPRES)

Project: PhD

Project Details

Description

The movement of macroplastics in complex delta environments, including bifurcations and tidal channels, has rarely been subject to study. This limits contemporary understanding of plastic transport from sources to sinks, which hampers proper quantification of plastic export to the ocean, and the development of suitable clean-up practices. This research proposal aims to address the existing knowledge gap with empirical research and numerical modelling. We aim to enhance the general understanding of plastic dynamics in response to flow processes at bifurcations, estuary, and flood plains and analyse how existing particle tracking techniques can be applied to macroplastics.
