Incentives for sustainable delivery of soil related ecosystem services (KB-21-003-003)

Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

The central goal of this research is to explore economic and other incentives for farming systems to deliver sustainably of soil related ecosystem services. In 2016 we focus on the core questions:

  • To what extent the current land-based agriculture provides for the delivery of ESS? What kind of problems are there (literature and empirical)?

  • How can the provision of ESS related to business type (and environmental and social factors ?!)? What kind of interactions ( trade-offs, synergies) can be distinguished?

  • What kind of steering is currently on providing ESS (which incentive mechanisms , by whom) , and how effective are these forms of steering (according to literature and empirical experiences)?

Based on this knowledge, we can take the step to develop concrete business advice and intervention scenarios. This has to be developed in close cooperation with farmers in a Public Private Partnership and can be implemented from 2017. So it is important to invest in relationships with farmers at the beginning of the project.
