HEU Climate Farm Demo (cofin) (KB-34-002-021)

Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

The European Green Deal outlines how Europe can become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. At both EU and national levels, various objectives, frameworks, and mechanisms have been developed to better prepare the EU for the current and future impacts of climate change. This also means that the agricultural sector must apply new practical solutions focused on climate adaptation and mitigation. An important aspect is testing and implementing innovative climate-smart solutions, with special attention to the potential for replication and transfer among farmers, regions, and Member States.

Climate Farm Demo focuses on climate adaptation and mitigation. It works to accelerate the uptake of innovations by farmers and growers by demonstrating these innovations on real farms, facilitating peer learning, and connecting innovation needs with knowledge partners. Climate Farm Demo is a major European project, involving 80 partners across 27 European countries and running for seven years.

Within the project, the following activities are carried out:

  • A network is established of 1,500 demo farms in 27 European countries, enabling knowledge development and exchange within and across borders. This takes place per climate zone, agricultural sector, and across 12 different adaptation and mitigation themes.
  • Pilot demo farmers are supported and guided in implementing and demonstrating Climate Smart Farming practices.
  • Ten Living Labs are set up and supported, aimed at co-creating specific solutions for persistent, region-specific climate challenges.
  • To increase impact, work is being done on standardising and rolling out climate and carbon tools, as well as exploring and sharing reward mechanisms that can support the intended transition.
