Herstel heischrale graslanden (BO-11-019.01-031)

Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

Species-rich Nardus grasslands H6230) is originally species-rich habitat type in the sand landscape of The Netherlands.  This priority Natura 2000 habitat type occurs in places that are better buffered by the presence of loam or the supply of buffering agents. Human influence has first increased sulfur and now nitrogen levels, and the soil buffer capacity of this habitat type is severely affected. Monitoring of the nitrogen load shows that recently hardly any reduction has occurred. In the entire country even the more common typical species of this habitat are declining strongly. The rare species have locally already disappeared or survive in too small and isolated, hardly viable populations. Although the habitat type covers a large range across the Netherlands, the total area is fragmented and thus the surface area is low, approximately only 100 ha in total. An action plan is needed to preserve this endangered habitat type for the Netherlands
