FQ in broilers (WOT-01-003-111)

Project: LVVN project

Project Details

Description

Fluoroquinolones (FQ) are potent bactericidal antibiotics active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and used in human and veterinary medicine to treat bacterial infections. FQ has been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as Highest Priority Critically Important Antimicrobials for humane medicine (WHO, 2018). However, due to their misuse, resistance to FQ has evolved rapidly and increasingly over the years.

Although the FQ use has been decreased considerably in broilers in the last 10 years, a slow decline in the rate of FQ resistance has been observed.

. For public health reasons, we want to unravel the reason for the slow decline in FQ resistant-E.coli and FQ resistant-Campylobacter isolates in broilers despite of the minimum use of FQ in this sector.
